Ahhh.....it finally getting to be warm weather again and I am so glad!  Even if my allergies bother me a little.  Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well.

3/22/2005  Chapter Meeting
We had a great chapter meeting on 3/22 with 14 in attendance.  Although the weather was not very cooperative, the tour at Radiator Specialty Company's Indian Trail Plant was great.  Our own Stuart Kerkhoff lead the tour which covered their production lines and waste / water management.  After the tour, each attendee received a selection of Gunk products as parting gifts.  See what you miss when you don't attend chapter meetings.  We really appreciate Radiator Specialty Company and Stuart for hosting our meeting / tour as well as providing the meal and gifts.  Attendance records have been updated on our web site.  Let me know if you see a discrepancy.

The next chapter meeting will be on Tuesday, May 24 at 6pm.  The location will be announced at a later date.  Ms. Heidi M. McNulty (Mecklenburg Co. EPA) will give a presentation called “What Contributes to Outdoor Air Pollution in Mecklenburg County?”   Announcements will be sent out closer to the meeting date.

Membership Committee / Project Update

Phase 1 of our Membership Project has been completed.  We set a goal to identify 100 contacts to mail an information letter and chapter brochure.  Thanks to the efforts of Chuck Denny, Giorgina Franklin, Christina Field, Annie Richardson and Mike Phillips, we have identified over 350 contacts!  I gave out a final list at the 3/22 meeting.  Phase 2 will be printing the letters, brochures and envelops, assembling and mailing.  I plan to do this within the next 2 - 3 weeks.  I think I can get this done with some help from my co-workers.  I will solicit your help if needed.  We will discuss at a later date if any further actions are needed.  If we only get a 5% response, that would be 18 new members!  I really feel that our chapter should have over 50 members.  Currently we have about 20 paid members.

Web Site National Award
At the 3/22 chapter meeting, I provided a copy of our proposed submittal for the Web Site of the Year award at the National ACHMM Conference in September.  I will be submitting the paperwork for the award next week.  I fully expect to win this award.  Hopefully everyone has taken time to check out the latest web site feature, Hazardous Materials In The News.  This web page searches various news feeds on the internet for news about hazardous materials or hazardous chemicals.  Stories are retuned with a brief description, a link to the full story and are sorted by date/time.  You can also get to this page by using the link on our web site menu under Industry Links & News.

Speaking of the web site, are you using the forum?  Although polls provide good information (you did take the poll right?), the real reason for the forum is to ask questions and share information.  So step up to the computer age and post some messages.  It can be fun and a great learning experience.

National ACHMM Conference
I have mentioned it briefly at our chapter meetings, but I wanted to put a plug in our newsletter for the upcoming national conference.   This year's conference is called "Gateway to the Future of EHS Management".  The conference will be held in St. Louis, Missouri on September 25-29.  Here's is a link to the conference web site and a link to the conference brochure.  I realize it's a little early, but I would like for you to begin thinking about attending if you can.  I would like for our chapter to be well represented.  We will discuss more at our next chapter meeting.
