February 28, 2006

The Queen City Chapter of the Academy of Hazardous Materials Managers has as a mission to foster professional development through continued education, peer-group interaction and exchange of ideas relating to the management of hazardous materials.  The first chapter meeting of 2006 was held at 6:00p on February 7, 2006 in the Johnson and Wales Student dining hall and it contained all aspects of that mission.

Alex Alamaguer, of Duke Energy, gave an update on the Occupational Exposure to Hexavalent Chromium; Proposed Rule. Included in his presentation were elements of how the rules will impact manufacturers and users, including Duke Energy.

New for this year is a “Member Highlight Segment”.  During this part of the meeting members share a brief summary of a project that they will interest the group. Christina Fields, of Sara Lee, gave a brief account of her Asbestos Project.  Other members are requested to volunteer to share projects of interest.  You should call or email me so that we can add you to the agenda.

Returning members, new members and visitors who were encouraged to become members all shared in the events of the night.

Remember to bring your dues to the next meeting which will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2006.  It will also be exciting, mark your schedule and plan to attend.
